TRANSPARENCIES is a series of collaborative prints I developed with the poet David Keplinger over the period of one year. For me the experience was unprecedented, involving a unique process of give and take. In Sept ’15, having noticed a pair of boots David was wearing, I snapped a photo: I could see a poem in the boots. Later I presented David with 12 drawn images. David then wrote poems in response to the images; in some cases he removed whole sections and inserted words. In response to that, I selected lines from the poems, merging them with images. In one piece, David wrote a poem which included flying birds; I went on to add the birds to the composition. The process continued like that, as both of us finely tuned the balance of image and written word, resulting in these 12 giclee prints.
